Who has the power?
Not me. Not you.
The image above is of a galaxy, the size of which is beyond reasonable comprehension. Sure, we can read the numbers, but putting it in scale is, well … that is the part that is beyond our ability to comprehend.
Our own Milky Way galaxy is over 100,000 light years across. This means that it takes 100,000 years for light to travel from one side to the other. FYI: This is about 600,000 trillion miles. We can quote the numbers all right, but the reality of that scale is beyond our ability to comprehend in any practical sense.
And this is just one galaxy, and a not-especially-large one at that. There are billions–potentially trillions–of galaxies in the observable Universe, each with billions to trillions of stars. And God created them all with a word.
Power? Beyond understanding, it is! Given all that, how can we hope to understand God and the immense power that is His being, character, and nature? The only way we can “deal” with things at this scale is by faith. This is the gift God gave to us to enable us to approach Him, accept Him, and trust Him. Only faith works at this level.
And you will know that God’s power is very great for us who believe. It is the same as the mighty power he used to raise Christ from death and put him at his right side in the heavenly places. (Eph 1:19-20 ERV)
In today’s Scripture passage, Paul says that God’s power is very great for us who believe. For us, he says. You could spend the rest of your life attempting to understand what this means to you, and it would be the equivalent of attempting to cross the Milky Way galaxy. After multiple lifetimes of time, you would hardly be closer. Faith, then, is the ONLY way.
Read today’s passage and ponder God’s greatness. Then, ponder His greatness for you. And again, you cannot comprehend it, so set your intention to accept it by faith. Is it really for you? Yes. Is God’s power able to do what He promised for you? Yes. Is He faithful to do what He promised? Yes. The power is there. It is for you. Faith initiates it.
And yet, simultaneously, we do have a way to comprehend it: Jesus. He is God in human flesh. To see Him is to see the Father, He told us. It is a part of His purpose. So, while you may not be able to wrap your head around all that God is in His vastness and beyond-reckoning power, you can wrap your head around Jesus. You can … but it takes faith to do this too.
So, faith is the key. Got faith? Yeah, you do. It’s God’s gift to you. Now, use it!
