A sick man turned to his doctor as he was preparing to leave the examination room.

“Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side.”

Very quietly, the doctor said, “I don’t know.”

“You don’t know? You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?”

The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, his golden retriever sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.

Turning to the patient, the doctor said, “Did you notice my dog? He’s never been in this room before. He didn’t know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear.

“I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing. I know my Master is there and that is enough.”

I heard this story about 20 years ago. I’m trying to remember who was giving credit for it. It was someone somewhat famous. His name is on the tip of my tongue, but I can’t remember. Does anybody else?

I am 55 years old. When I was growing up my parents taught me many things….some that still resonate today. Good work ethics, respect and reverence for my parents and people that are older(grandma and grandpa)Although,my parents did their best with what they knew they were not perfect. However,I have wonderful memories as a child growing up playing softball with the family, and running around the field with my bother and sisters laughing, getting along with them and others, fishing, and swimming. My mothers sisters and brothers with their children always, there as well.Looking back,I realize that mostly, dad was preparing my heart to get along without him (dad)….and by example how to live. But,when it came to talking about death this was something never discussed. This is all mom thinks about of late.I don’t want to let her go.I know she does not want to let me go. I believe she is holding on to see my daughter walk the line this May when she graduates from college.

I think the story “What is on the other side” is sweet..and simple.
Thank you, through this story we can all learn to fear less and Trust Jesus a little more.
