I love the look of billowy clouds on a sunny day. They are especially pretty seeing them from above. When I look out of the window of an airplane, it looks as if the clouds are giant balls of fluff that you could walk on.

If we could see life like we see the clouds from an airplane, looking at it from above, our perspective would be much different. From below, they make the day look gloomy and sometimes can even look ugly.

But clouds aren’t always something to dislike. They cause shadows on a sunny day, making a hot day cooler, and they hold raindrops that are vital to our survival. Job 37:12

From here, our view can be dreary and gloomy, with no proverbial “light at the end of the tunnel”, but looking at it from God’s viewpoint, above the clouds, we see a beauty not seen from below. We can feel the weight of our trouble disappear as we fix our eyes above the clouds, on the Father. When we do that, we see the clouds from a different perspective – the perspective that the Father sees – and we realize that the clouds are temporary.

Even when clouds threaten our day, we can see the rays of light shining through them, or the bright rim around the clouds reminding us that the Son is just behind the clouds, shining His light. He can help us change our viewpoint from that below the clouds to the view above them, where the Son shines. The clouds won’t last forever. At some point, they will break up and the sun will shine again.

… I am the light of the world… John 8:12

On days when our life clouds are not dark and gloomy, but are soft, white, and billowy, we can rejoice in Him, seeing the beauty of Who He is and what He has given us.

No matter what our circumstance, good or bad, if we fix our eyes on Jesus, we will see His light shine on us, and we will have a better view, as if from above.
