Sometimes life seems hard to bear,
Full of sorrow, trouble and woe.
It’s then I have to remember
That it’s in the valleys I grow.

If I always stayed on the mountain top
And never experienced pain,
I would never appreciate God’s love
And would be living in vain.

I have so much to learn
And my growth is very slow.
Sometimes I need the mountain tops,
But it’s in the valleys I grow.

I do not always understand
Why things happen as they do.
But I am very sure of one thing.
My Lord will see me through.

My little valleys are nothing
When I picture Christ on the cross.
He went through the valley of death;
His victory was Satan’s loss.

Forgive me Lord, for complaining
When I’m feeling so very low.
Just give me a gentle reminder
That it’s in the valleys I grow.

Continue to strengthen me, Lord
And use my life each day
To share your love with others
And help them find their way.

Thank you for valleys, Lord
For this one thing I know.
The mountain tops are glorious
But it’s in the valleys I grow!

This poem really encouraged me after the passing of my wife. After a long battle with Lupus, I found myself raising 4 small children by myself. Many obstacles occurred, but all were overcome, due to the Grace of God!

Great poem, and true! We love the mountaintop experiences, but we grow, oh so painfully but still grow, in the valleys.

Quite encouraging. I’ve been in this valley for over 8months but now I know I’m growing and God is in control. I’ve complained and cried but thank God for this season. This too WILL PASS

Thank you for this reminder. There seem to be more valleys than mountains for me and my family since the last few months. As I ponder on all that we are going through, a still small voice reminds me that God sees all. It’s in the furnace that He shows up. The valleys, storms and the furnace will shape us to be all He wants us to be.

This is beautiful the moment my eye caught the words of this it took me back from where I have come and I appreciate life in the valley than on the top . The mountain is good but if you don’t no the valley you will never known how to get to the mountain.

  15. Elizabeth says:

Thanks you for this! I was just telling a friend as we are going through a tough time with our son, that it’s at times like this we grow the most. This poem was so timely and is so beautiful!! Praise be to God!!

I needed to hear this… yes, in the quiet valleys… that’s where the water runs, where the streams meet, not on the mountain tops, the mountain tops are where we see the bigger picture, but very few fruits don’t grow on the mountain tops, they grow down in the valleys. where there’s water.. Lord, lead me to the streams of living water, in this valley.
