I hate walking into a spider web. It feels like you can’t get the stuff off of you. It clings to whatever it touches, and the worst part is most of the time, you don’t see it until you walk into it.
Also, most of us, at one time or another, have gotten our foot caught in something and almost fallen. You can’t get very far if your feet are tangled in a rope or something like it. Maybe you can hobble and take small steps, but you can’t walk, let alone run until the rope is loosened and you are set free.
While there are times when our feet get caught in something or get tangled up in a spider’s web, the real ropes in our lives are not literal. They are the straps of sin, which will make us fall on our faces if we don’t get loose from them. And like the spider’s web, it can catch us off guard and clings to us before we know it, and it is very hard to get off.
However, there is a way to combat the web and ropes of sin.
Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith. Heb 12:1-2
Sin is the easiest thing to get into and can be the hardest thing to be set free from. The enemy makes it look so tempting and lures us into his trap. However, we can be set free.
The only way to get free from the ropes of sin is to keep our focus on Jesus. It is fixing our gaze on Him – like glue, secure and unshakable. Then we won’t be caught up in the enemy’s web of deceit and lies. Depending on how long we have been caught in the trap, it may take a little longer to be set free, but keep on going. It’s worth it.
