Are you feeling tired, sluggish, and unmotivated? This can be due to many factors, such as the heat, the lack of sunlight, or simply the monotony of summer days. But if you are feeling this way, don’t despair! There are many things we can do to overcome the summer doldrums.
- Remember that God is with you.
The Bible teaches us that God is always with us, even in difficult times. In Psalm 23, we read, Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4)
When we remember that God is with us, it can give us the strength to keep going even when we feel tired, sluggish, or unmotivated. It can also help us to find hope and joy even in the summer doldrums.
- Spend time in God’s Word.
One of the best ways to connect with God is to spend time in his Word. The Bible is full of wisdom and guidance, and it can help us to find hope, peace, and comfort. Try setting aside time each day to read the Bible. You can read from the Old Testament, the New Testament, or a book of Psalms. You can also read a devotional or listen to a Bible study. Worship music is always a good choice. 😉
The book of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 talks about the different seasons of life, including the summer season. It reminds us that there is a time for everything and that even the summer doldrums are a part of God’s plan.
- Pray.
Prayer is another great way to connect with God. When you pray, you are communicating with God and opening your heart to him. Prayer can help you to express your feelings, to ask for help, and to receive God’s guidance. If you are feeling the summer doldrums, try praying about your feelings. You can also pray for strength, peace, and joy.
The Bible tells us that Jesus often prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. He prayed for strength to face the challenges ahead, and he also prayed for peace.
- Serve others.
One of the best ways to overcome the summer doldrums is to serve others. When you focus on helping others, it takes your mind off your problems and gives you a sense of purpose. There are many ways to serve others, such as volunteering at a local soup kitchen, helping a neighbor, or donating to a charity. Find something that you are passionate about and get involved.
The Bible tells us about the Good Samaritan who helped a man who was beaten and robbed. The Samaritan didn’t think about his problems, but he focused on helping the man in need.
- Get outside.
Even if it’s hot outside, get some fresh air and sunshine. Spending time in nature can help to improve your mood and energy levels. Go for a walk, hike, or bike ride. Sit in your backyard or at a park. Just being in nature can help to lift your spirits. The Bible tells us that David found peace and comfort in the beauty of creation. It helped him worship and praise the Lord, worship we can share in to this day.
- Be patient with yourself.
It’s important to be patient with yourself during the summer doldrums. Don’t expect to feel instantly better. Take things one day at a time, and trust that God will help you through this season.
The summer doldrums are a temporary season. With God’s help, we can overcome them and have a joyful and productive summer.
